Our founder and President, Peggy Newfield, is recognized as a leading
expert on travel and tourism to the Galapagos Islands. With frequent visits to
the islands, she continually forges close personal and professional ties with
all the major boat owners and tourism providers. This translates into the best
possible Galapagos experience for every Latin American Escapes client. From her
first visit nearly 20 years ago, she realized this is indeed a very special
place that should have its tourism development progress gently in order to
protect its beauty and wildlife. |
Her
passion for this fragile destination led her to become actively involved in its
preservation. As president of IGTOA (International Galapagos Tour Operators
Association) she facilitated a grant to the Recycling Center on the island of
Santa Cruz run by the
Fundacion Galapagos
Ecuador.

She also coordinated funding to a joint project with Rainforest Alliance and Conservation International that promotes sustainable tourism and conservation in the Galapagos Islands through a series of training workshops for local tourism providers on best management practices. In conjunction with this program, she sits on an international advisory committee that evaluates the technical tools used in these workshops. Latin American Escapes donates a percentage of our profits annually towards these and other important projects in the Galapagos Islands. |
